Open Studios Summer 2026

For the summer session of the Open Studios, the artists in residence shared a glimpse of their ongoing research through installations, lectures, screenings, and sonic or visual works.

alfatih, Ana María Millán et Andrea Carrillo presented the first outcomes of Tender Mesh – An Adaptive Ecosystem of Complicities, through video installations. The project explores embodied knowledge, digital technologies, and new forms of collaboration.

Mahshid Rafiei presented an arrangement of works-in-progress bringing together textual, sonic, and sculptural assemblages that reflect on these questions ; in the face of muteness, what forms of extraverbal utterance or bodily excretion emerge in place of speech? To what extent can such illegible utterances resist or subvert the assimilative effects of signification and recognition?.

Mira M. Yang shared a reading of texts, bringing together Chris Marker’s writings on North Korea, fragments developed in collaboration with a dancer, and translated myths from the Samguk Yusa. Mira also presented a film produced as part of the installation Karaoke Falsetto, that explores voice as a space of migration, transformation, and transmission.

Zoé Samudzi presented the in-progress inaugural project of the constellation Can the African Steal?, based on archival photographs of the Belgian Congo (circa 1929–1930).

Puer Deorum projected Ghost Child, a film exploring the overlooked sibling as a figure suspended between presence and absence. The film reflects on in-between states, solitude, and mortality across space and time.

Alice Bucknell shared two game projects exploring speculative ecologies. Coyote Time is an “infinite night” eco sci-fi text-based adventure game, while Earth Engine is a “planetary play” ecological simulation game in which visitors take turns being played by the planet itself.

Clemens Fischer presented an autonomous image-making system installed in Lake Geneva, where Lake Geneva becomes both the driving force and the subject of this autonomous image-making process.

Drew McDowall performed a sound work exploring aging as both a personal and universal transformation. The work evokes cycles of loss, renewal, and resilience while constructing a layered listening experience shaped by shifting perceptions of time and space.
