Open Studios Fall 2021
For this fall edition of our Open Studios series, the audience was invited to discover the film State Fiction. Neutral Only on the Outside directed by Denise Bertschi, based on archival footage of Swiss military soldiers and officers stationed in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea from 1953. She then presented the project she started at La Becque, Where is Lacus Lemanus? mapping dis:connected natures, a research on the direct links between Switzerland and the eucalyptus plantations in Brazil. Stephen O’Malley shared an ongoing project by director Charwei Tsai, Numbers, for which he produced the soundtrack.
In her studio, Nora Khan created an abundant reading room inviting visitors to sit and browse through the many works she has contributed to. The visit continued with a listening session in the studio of the French-Dutch duo The Mycological Twist, lying under the canopy of naturally dyed fabrics. Joel Kuennen presented the different steps involved in the production of North Stars, a sculpture that, in the meantime, has seen the light of day in the residency’s gardens. As for the Swedish duo Gideonsson/Londré, they invited us in their apartment fully immersed in an orange light, reproducing the conditions needed for their investigations on The Hour of the Wolf, a state that manifests itself between 3 and 5am, during which our metabolism slows down and our production of melatonin intensifies.
Continuing towards the chalet, one could then let oneself be carried by the extracts of Combers, a sound piece by Rebecca Kressley dealing with the lake tsunami which ravaged the whole region in the year 536. The evening ended with a magnificent live performance by the Vevey-based musician dianita, in residency at La Becque as part of our partnership with EDHEA.
Thank you all for joining us!
