Symposium PROVENCE
05.10.2024
This meeting included two panels focused on an increasingly prominent trend: why more and more institutions, galleries, and even art fairs are launching their own magazines. We looked at the purpose of these tailored publications and explore the broader implications for so-called “independent” publishing. Are these branded magazines filling a gap, or are they reshaping the landscape of publishing altogether? One of the most iconic examples of in-house publishing is Colors magazine, which, at its peak, became more influential than its parent brand, United Colors of Benetton.

Mitchell Anderson (Artist and writer, Zürich), Anya Harrison (Curator, MO.CO. Montpellier Contemporain, independent curator and writer), Melanie Ohnemus (Director, Kunsthaus Glarus), Alex Scrimgeour (Editor, Hauser & Wirth), and Sabrina Tarasoff (Independent writer and critic). Moderated by PROVENCE.
