Jaakko Pallasvuo

Biography
Jaakko Pallasvuo (b. 1987) is a Finnish artist and writer based in Helsinki. Working across performance, writing, drawing, and digital imagery, their practice explores hierarchies and feelings, with particular attention to how contemporary information infrastructures shape subjectivity. Pallasvuo’s work has been presented at the Baltic Triennial, BOZAR in Brussels, Frankfurter Kunstverein, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, and New York Film Festival. Their book Mouthing the Words: Texts for Performance 2019–2025 (Khaos Publishing, 2025) collects performance texts written for choreographer Maria Metsalu, performance artist Teo Ala-Ruona, and music group Amnesia Scanner, among others. Pallasvuo also publishes micro-essays on the contemporary condition through the Instagram account @avocado_ibuprofen.

Residency project
At La Becque, Jaakko Pallasvuo will develop Star, a new play exploring celebrity as an effect of industrialisation and through the lens of the death drive. The project takes as its starting point two figures connected to the Lake Geneva region: Charlie Chaplin, who spent the final decades of his life in Corsier-sur-Vevey, and Sabina Spielrein, who studied and practised in Geneva and Lausanne. Bringing these two trajectories into dialogue, the play examines the relationship between celebrity, image, and selfhood, asking what it means to be consumed by one’s own image.
