Aleksandra Słyż

Biography
Aleksandra Słyż (b. 1995) is a Polish composer based in Poznań, working across contemporary classical and electroacoustic music. Her practice explores the perception of time, the timbral relationships between acoustic and synthetic sounds, and microtonal tuning systems. Her work has been presented internationally at festivals and venues including Rewire Festival in The Hague, CTM and MaerzMusik in Berlin, Warsaw Autumn, Unsound in Kraków, the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and Alice Tully Hall in New York. Her compositions have been performed by ensembles including the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra and Basel Sinfonietta. In 2025, Słyż was invited by the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and The Wapping Project in London to create new works for the historic instruments of the Polish Radio Experimental Studio.

Residency project
At La Becque, Aleksandra Słyż will expand Ruins, an ongoing research-based artistic project examining ruins as traces of memory, identity, heritage, and history. Drawing on La Becque’s landscape, she will further explore the environmental dimension of ruins and the ways in which their surroundings quietly bear witness to, absorb, and interact with these traces over time. Combining recordings of acoustic instruments, modular synthesis, and instruments from the Polish Radio Experimental Studio that had not been publicly used for over two decades, the project considers how forgotten cultural heritage can be reawakened and brought back into focus.
