Biography
As member of the art collective JODI, with Dick Paesmans, who pioneered net.art, Joan Heemskerk is among the first artists to have explored and subverted the conventions of the Internet, computers and video games, disrupting their language including visual aesthetics, interface elements, commands, errors and code. JODI stages extreme digital interventions that destabilize the relationship between computer technology and its users. Their work uses a wide variety of media and techniques, from installations, software and websites to performances and exhibitions.
