RANI YASMINE PUTRI (ID) & DAVID LOY (FR)
Residency period: September 2023
Rani Yasmine Putri (b. 1994) is a Brussels-based, Indonesian-born type and graphic designer. After obtaining her Master’s in Type Design at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne in 2019, she joined Ghent-based graphic design studio terrain for 4 years. Her practice explores the interaction between established systems with rule-bending playfulness, through research and conception of type design, publications, and identities, both in commercial and cultural disciplines. She is currently working on a display font, which will be released in the summer of 2023, whilst doing graphic and type works.
David Loy (b. 1990) is a Brussels-based, Brittany-born graphic designer. After graduating from ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne, he worked for Zak Group, Hong Kong Design Institute and Pentagram, among others. His work explores graphical systems through various fields including visual identity, book design, digital design, and motion design. Alongside his work as a designer, he has initiated multidisciplinary projects where he personally explores the combination of traditional media with emerging technologies.
During their month-long residency at La Becque, Putri and Loy will explore the theme of climate change and its representation in day-to-day mass media through research and collaboration with multiple sources from environmental writers to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports.
