COYOTE
Residency period: January – Mars 2021
WHO IS COYOTE
COYOTE is a shape-shifter, a go-between, a trickster.
Neither a wolf nor a dog, but a metaphorical being,
an invasive species migrating from the New World,
a mutant critter cross-breeding with other species and encounters.
WHAT WE DID
Elated by the moonglow, COYOTE howls towards the mountains. The animal traces back its steps and follows the imprint of the past though the somber present and to an uncertain future. Under the influence of the foehn and the Sahara dust, around Geneva Lake, COYOTE re·assembles the facets of their past and ongoing research:
– Environments, an open-ended environmental visual lexicon to think, feel, and act in an increasingly devastated and contaminated world.
– ÉTAT CRITIQUE DE L’ÉTAT, a study group which traces a critical genealogy of the state through collective readings.
WHAT WE SEEK FOR
In this time of altered climates and ecological metamorphosis, a viral season has swept the world and we are heading for another year without winter. Bringing together visual essays, speculative fictions, interviews with allies, thought-forms, and a coyote anthropology, COYOTE initiates a collective Frankenstein-like writing, taking the form of a multilingual and experimental publication. We call upon a multi-perspective fiction of the coyote as a totem figure to combat hegemonic narratives of mastery and control. Living on the edge, COYOTE hides from the omniscient eye of the nation state and transforms its habitat into a borderless world.
COYOTE is a multifaceted collective, a co-operation between beings and affects, the crystallisation of certain zones of affinities. Each year since 2015, COYOTE follows the trail of one of its members to explore new territorialities (Paris, Lisbon, Athens, Barcelona). The collective takes intersectionality as a method and subject, working at the crossing of experimental and conceptual forms: printed matter, radio, conversations, critical meals.
