BRODERICK SHOEMAKER
Residency period: July – September 2020
I made exploratory paintings of Lake Leman in traditional watercolour techniques in anticipation of a collaborative project with Yves Scherer. We intended to present a panoramic installation inspired by the artistic history of the lake. Due to the pandemic, my stay was cut short from three months to one and we did not have time to realise the project. Nonetheless, it was extremely valuable to spend time painting from the natural setting of the residency and I hope to return to finish our work.
I was trained in traditional watercolour techniques and had not painted in that style in many years. La Becque reignited some of the original passion that drew me to painting.
Attached are some sample paintings. These selected small works I had framed in Greece in anticipation of a show that Yves and I plan to put on in the near future.
