Concert Kali MAlone
20.08.2021
We were thrilled to be co-presenting a very special performance on Friday August 20, at Saint-François Church in Lausanne!
As part of the events program related to PARABOLES ulx-56834, their summer long exhibition at Saint-François, our good friends Fragment.in have invited our guest resident Kali Malone to perform on the church’s magnificent organs.
Kali’s compositions implement specific tuning systems in minimalist structure for pipe organ, choir, chamber music ensembles, and electroacoustic formats. Kali’s music is rich with harmonic texture through synthetic and acoustic instrumentation in repetitive motions and extended durations. The music emits distinct emotive and affective hues which bring forth a stunning depth of focus. Her critically acclaimed 2019 album and major work ‘The Sacrificial Code’ guides us through an almost trance-inducing process where we become vulnerable receptors for every slight movement, where every miniature shift in sound becomes magnified through stillness.
Malone’s compositional and tonal heft will was clearly felt at Saint-François, as she tackles the meantone temperament of the church’s imposing organs with new compositions. She was joined on several parts of her performance by our resident Stephen O’Malley, and by Danish sound artist Frederikke Hoffmeier (also known under the alias Puce Mary).
The concert was preceded by the broadcast, on “PARABOLES ulx-56834″‘s dedicated directional speakers, of a selection of works by Peter Rehberg. Also known as Pita, Rehberg was the head of Editions Mego and a towering figure in experimental music, whose untimely passing a month before was a shock to many in the world of avant-garde sound, including his close friends Kali, Frederikke and Stephen.
