Thaddé Comar (FR/CH, 1993)
Residency period: September 2025
A 2018 graduate from ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne, French/Swiss photographer Thaddé Comar (born in 1993) addresses contemporary social and political dynamics, with a particular interest in protest movements. He spent several years documenting the Black Bloc movement in Paris. In 2022, he published How Was Your Dream? (Mörel Books), a book on the Hong Kong protests that took place between June and October 2019, focusing on new forms of insurrection in controlled societies. His photographs have been regularly exhibited at the Rencontres d’Arles, the Centre Photographique de Genève, Art Basel, and Librairie 7L. He currently lives and works in Paris.
As part of this EXECAL residency at La Becque, Comar aims to develop a project that follows on from the research he began during his graduation work at ECAL, which addressed the relationship between media systems and activist news, and how information is staged and presented. Combining theoretical reflection with practical experimentation, he hopes to further his research by focusing on the object of the lectern.
