TOPOLOGICAL FRAYING: Cie Greffe / Cindy Van Acker, Stephen O’Malley, Kali Malone & Eklekto
05.03.2022 – Pavillon ADC, Geneva
Geneva-based choreographer Cindy van Acker and her company, Cie Greffe, are in the midst of a two-week takeover of Geneva’s contemporary dance hotspot, Pavillon ADC. Composing with all kinds of existing material, Cindy and Cie Greffe give free rein to their desire for connection and for new collaborations, between artists and with the audience – stretching and twisting forms of interaction, they carry out what can be considered a topological fraying.
At the center of the dense program stands a sound and dance collaboration initiated with La Becque’s 2021 residents Stephen O’Malley and Kali Malone, revolving around the former’s reworking of his long-form work Les Sphères with the Geneva-based percussion ensemble Eklekto, led by Alexandre Babel, during a week-long composer residency last December. The collaboration with Cindy van Acker takes the form of a long-duration chamber music performance, with dancers weaving in and out of the resonant feedback whipped up by Kali’s analog synth, Stephen’s guitar, and Eklekto’s array of metal percussion.
