ROCIO BERENGUER (ES, 1987)
Residency period: February-March 2024
Invited at La Becque as part of a residency with Plateforme 10, Rocio Berenguer is a transdisciplinary artist born in Spain and based in Marseille since 2012. A playwright, director, actress, dancer, choreographer and artistic director, Rocio Berenguer’s practice is rooted in an exploration of contemporary issues and challenges, as well as the major mutations of our times, and finds singular combinations between dance, digital devices, technologies, theater and writing. Thanks in particular to numerous collaborations with scientists, her artistic career is imbued with a deep interest in the evolution of individual freedom in Western societies, the growing impact of technology on our daily lives, and the ecological challenges we face.
Her latest theatrical creation, THEBADWEEDS (2023), transports audiences into a whimsical universe where half-human, half-plant creatures take turns singing, slamming and dancing, in a world that transcends species boundaries. Rocio Berenguer has recently presented her work at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature and Théâtre de la Ville in Paris (2023), La Grange, Centre / Arts et Sciences / UNIL in Lausanne (2023), Teatros del Canal in Madrid (2023), Université de Montréal (2022), and Théâtre de Strasbourg (2022).
