Rizomagic (CO, 1990/1991)
Period of residency: May-July 2024
At La Becque, we worked on a new album, inspired by the slow-pitched Cumbia Rebajada sound of Monterrey, Mexico, and ambient music. During our residency as part of a program in partnership with the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, we explored different tuning systems and developed one that contains pure intervals and is based on planetary tuning, specifically the frequency of an earth day as calculated by Swiss physicist Hans Cousto. The songs were composed with diverse synthesis techniques including the creation of digital instruments constructed by sampling Swiss soundscapes, especially bird calls. — Rizomagic
