Wisrah C. V. da R. Celestino

Residency report
At La Becque, Wisrah C. V. da R. Celestino developed a visual, philosophical and scientific investigation into the presence of plastic objects in Lake Geneva. Their aim was to create a narrative piece that can be presented both as a video essay and a performative lecture that explore the interaction between those synthetic elements and the wildlife on an ontological perspective while also addressing the relationship between the plastic industry and petro-capitalism.

Biography
Wisrah C. V. da R. Celestino is a Brazilian artist whose work incorporates sound, sculpture, text, photography, score, instruction, and video in installations, mixed and hypermedia pieces exploring the relationship between concepts of nature and capital. In more recent online work, EEE (2021), Celestino relocated an existing map that allows visitors to track the geolocation of many vessels around the world to design a hypermedia work that addresses the flux of commodities that once started with the colonisation of what is now called the Americas.

Institutional collections and commissions include Kadist, France, Museu Nacional da República, Brazil, and Instituto Moreira Salles, Brazil. Previous residencies and fellowships include Pivô, Brazil, PACT, Germany, and Lago Mio, Switzerland. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at Goswell Road, Paris, GUAVA, Brasília, and group shows at the 14th Curitiba Biennale, Curitiba, SALTS, Basel, OLHÃO, São Paulo, and MASSIMO, Milan.
