Salomé Burstein

Residency report
During her residency at La Becque, Salomé worked on the space’s future programming and on a collective French translation project of Country Lesbians, a book written by the founding mothers of the WomanShare collective (Sue Deevy, Nelly Kaufer, Carol Newhouse, Billie Miracle, Dian Wagner) in 1976, which will be co-published by Shmooks and Ness books in the spring of 2026. She also dedicated part of her residency to a personal writing project looking into cut-up and reality TV.

Biography
Salomé Burstein is an independent curator and writer based in Paris. Her current research looks into the entwinement of eroticism, attention economy and entertainment culture. With an academic background in theater and visual studies (ENS Lyon, EHESS Paris, Columbia University, New York) and further investigations around collective practices (Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm), she has collaborated with several artistic institutions (AFIELD Fellowship, Lafayette Anticipations, Hauser & Wirth) and publications (Mousse, Texte zur Kunst, JRP, CURA) through exhibitions, texts and translations. Salomé is also the founder and director of Shmorévaz, an independent space for art and research located in a former shoe store in Paris, as well as editor of Shmooks, its affiliated publishing platform.
