Liz Santoro & Pierre Godard

Biography
Liz Santoro (b. 1979) and Pierre Godard (b. 1978) are French-American choreographers based in Paris. Since 2011, they have collaborated on generative and algorithmic choreographic systems that explore the mechanisms of attention. Trained at the Boston Ballet and a graduate in neuroscience from Harvard, Santoro also performed on New York’s experimental dance scene. Godard moved from scientific research to directing and choreography after completing a PhD in natural language processing at Paris-Saclay University. Combining movement and text, their work increasingly incorporates digital technologies, including motion capture and generative artificial intelligence. Their work has been presented at Centre Pompidou in Paris, HAU in Berlin, Tanzhaus Düsseldorf, The Kitchen in New York, and National Gallery Singapore, among others. Their piece Watch It received a Bessie Award in 2013.

Residency project
Invited to La Becque as part of a residency with Plateforme 10 in Lausanne, Liz Santoro and Pierre Godard will develop Notre attention transforme le monde, a new work examining the fragmentation of attention caused by screens and algorithms. The project centres on an attention heat map projected onto the floor, visualising the audience’s gaze in real time and transforming the stage into an interactive space. Two performers move within this shifting environment, continuously shaped by the audience’s attention and creating a feedback loop between stage and auditorium. Through this system, Santoro and Godard seek to create an experience that encourages an active, critical, and shared perception of the world. The project is a recipient of Le Vivier 2026, a programme supporting contemporary artistic creation incorporating digital technologies.
