Mitch Paone (US, 1982)
Residency period: February – May 2019
First ECAL resident at La Becque, Mitch Paone furthered his research into how movement, time and sound can be translated into complex visual systems. During his residency, he also did some interventions at ECAL for the Graphic Design Bachelor and the Type Design Master. In this context, Mitch Paone presented Time is Form, Form is Time, an in-depth lecture covering DIA’s “Input Output” studio approach highlighting the thinking and process behind kinetic identity design and typography.
Mitch Paone is the Partner & Creative Director at DIA, a Brooklyn based creative studio specializing in kinetic identity systems, graphic design and typography. Among others, he worked with Apple, A-Trak, Balenciaga, Maison Kitsuné, Nike, Saint Laurent and Squarespace. Beyond his work with DIA, Mitch is a performing jazz pianist, composer, type designer, educator (ECAL, Pratt Institute in New York, Royal Academy of Art in The Hague) & lecturer.
