Letìcia RAMOS (BR, 1976)
Residency period: January – March 2021
At La Becque, Ramos worked on Stories of the End of the World, a project consisting of five science fiction films, each set in a part of the world where climate change is altering the landscape. During her residency, she develop one of these stories, entitled Drop Spike, which takes place in 2044, when mysterious spheres appear as a result of the intensified melting of polar ice on the coast of Pyramiden, an abandoned town on an island in the Arctic Ocean.
Based in São Paulo, Letìcia Ramos is a scientific artist and a traveller who goes through the centuries to unearth ways of representing the world. From historical events and natural phenomena, she builds symbolic connections between politics, science and imagination where future and past are interwoven. In her detailed investigation into analogue photography, she uses sculpture, scale models and special effects to create imaginary landscapes, narratives and fantasies that are formalised in photography, film and installation.
