Carte blanche to Stephen O’Malley, dedicated to Peter Rehberg
At cave12 in Geneva
The Geneva-based association cave12, dedicated for more than 30 years to the diffusion of experimental music, has invited Stephen O’Malley, resident of our 2021 Principal Residency Program, for a sort of curatorial carte blanche series of three parts called IOM BLANCHE12. A member, among others, of the cult Sunn O))), O’Malley, at the head of his absolutely fascinating label, Ideologic Organ (an offshoot of the no less essential Editions Mego label), has been regaling us for years with (re)discoveries and/or obscure and often magnificent/magnetic archives of the international underground sonoric quest.
For the last evening of the series, O’Malley proposes two solo acts, Youmna Saba (LB) and Kamilya Jurban (PS), two female voices revisiting the Arab tradition/culture to bring it to other futures with a mastery and poetry in voice, oud and electroacoustic manipulations totally magnetic and soothing.
These evenings are all dedicated to the immense Peter Rehberg (mastermind of Editions Mego) who suddenly left us this summer.
YOUMNA SABA
Musician and musicologist from Beirut, her work focuses on the inter-relationship between classical Arabic music from the Mashreq, electronic music, electro-acoustic treatments and the Arabic language as a compositional tool to generate new approaches.
KAMILYA JUBRAN
Palestinian based in Europe since 2002, Kamilya Jurban has been developing for 30 years a strong and highly intimate personal universe with voice and oud, mixing traditions and contemporary experimentations for an infinite repertoire of compositions/songs with a magically magnetic authenticity and beauty from which she will draw for a set that promises to be enchanting. Rare and with a totally bewitching poetry.
CYRIL YETERIAN
The evening will be punctuated by a selection of oriental music concocted by the passionately inhabited Cyril Yeterian (from Bongo Joe)!
