FLORENCIA ASPEE (CL)
Residency period: October – December 2020
The books produced during the residency recount a series of memories, themselves brought on by the presence of the lake. They comprise experiences, both real and fictional, that build their own memories of a space and the characters that inhabit it. Together, they are a reflection of the landscape created by the physical relationship with it, through being, remembering and dreaming. They connect a collection of personal memories of a particular place, through archival images and texts, allowing for speculation on its origins, its future pasts and its present.
The association of two landscapes from two hemispheres, with their own mountains and lakes, fuelled my imagination and raised the question: how do the natural conditions that affect my present geographical location also affect me psychologically and physically? The works express the relationship between my memories and my present.
Florencia Aspèe (b. 1994) holds a BA in Visual Arts and an MA in Photographic Research and Creation from FinnisTerrae University in Santiago de Chile. Her work combines sculpture, collage and narrative writing to describe fictional landscapes and the actions and memories associated with them. She gathers this material in books/objects, where documents, graphic elements and photographs bring together different realities and temporalities.
