Midmeste

Developed during residencies at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart and La Becque in 2023, Midmeste is the first duo collaboration between Australian composer-performers Judith Hamann and James Rushford. Performed on cello and a variety of pipe organs, the work unfolds as a sparse yet immersive exploration of alternative tunings, psychoacoustic phenomena, and acoustic resonance. Partly recorded on the historic organ of the Basilica of Valère in Sion during Biennale Son, the album weaves together breath, harmonics, mechanical creaks, and silence into a slow-moving and deeply textured composition, where space and the physical presence of the performers become integral elements of the music.
