Rizomagic
Developed during a three-month Pro Helvetia residency at La Becque, Cumbión Planetario is the latest album by Bogotá-based duo Rizomagic. Blending cumbia rebajada, electronic experimentation, and alternative tuning systems inspired by planetary frequencies, the record explores new connections between traditional rhythms, technology, and the natural world. During their time at La Becque, Edgar Marún and Diego Manrique drew inspiration from the surrounding landscape, incorporating birdsongs heard daily around the residency into the album’s melodic language. Combining field recordings, self-designed digital instruments, and analogue equipment recorded at SMEM in Fribourg, Cumbión Planetario unfolds as a vibrant and immersive work of tropical futurism.
