Concert Elaine Mitchener
11.09.2025
A British vocalist, performer, and composer of Afro-Caribbean descent, Elaine Mitchener navigates between contemporary and experimental music, free improvisation, and the visual arts. Her work spans the worlds of contemporary classical composition as well as the most radical and improvised forms of expression.
This concert resonated with Solo Throat, Mitchener’s first solo album, which draws inspiration from the works of Afro-Caribbean and African-American poets Edward Kamau Brathwaite, Aimé Césaire, Una Marson, and N. H. Pritchard, pushing the boundaries of lyrical translation and giving rise to new sonic textures.
Elaine Mitchener’s residency at La Becque was organized in collaboration with the Geneva-based association Konnekt.
La Becque’s public program is supported by the City of La Tour-de-Peilz, Loterie Romande, the Coromandel Foundation, the Philanthropique Famille Sandoz Foundation, and Pensimo Fondsleitung.
