Artist Communities – Sonic Patterns
11.07.2023
Curated by Vanessa Cimorelli, Artist Communities is a quarterly cycle of public encounters and conversations featuring La Becque residents and other artists and protagonists of contemporary art-making. Based primarily on the concept of “community”, each discussion circle offers the public the opportunity to exchange with the speakers on their practices and experiences with regard to key contemporary themes.
Entitled Sonic Patterns, the second discussion in the Artist Communities series saw our current residents Hanne Lippard and Nicole L’Huillier join Swiss-Martiniquan artist Nathalie Rebholz and French-Swiss artist Axelle Stiefel around .
This discussion, based on a dialogue between sound production and the visual arts, attempted to sketch out the transdisciplinary landscape in which sound appears. Through this conversation, the artists revealed how sound is a complex motif in their artistic production, invoking questions of sensitivity, language, dissemination and connection. As we forged links between sound systems and related installation processes, we continued to explore the subject of community already initiated at our previous meeting last February.
