Christopher Santerre (FR, 1987)
Residency period: May 2026
Based in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region, Christopher Santerre is an industrial designer who graduated from ENSCI – Les Ateliers in Paris. His practice combines desirability, sustainability, and local craftsmanship, with particular attention to the environmental impact of objects.
In 2016, he co-founded L’Increvable, a company developing a durable, repairable, and upgradable washing machine, a project selected for the Rising Talents Awards at Maison & Objet in 2017. In 2019, he launched his own design studio, specialising in the development of low environmental impact products. His projects include the Moonbikes electric snowmobile, the Rivoli electric bicycle for Voltaire, Reus’eat biodegradable cutlery, and the Karbikes intermediate vehicle. In 2025, he was a finalist for the Agora Grant for Design with the research project Set & Setting.
Invited to La Becque in partnership with Plateforme 10 (Lausanne), Christopher Santerre will explore trance as a sensory experience that is difficult to share. Drawing on the concept of “self-induced cognitive trance,” developed by ethnomusicologist Corine Sombrun following her initiation into Mongolian shamanism, he will investigate ways of making this intimate transitional state perceptible. Through physical, sonic, and visual devices, the project seeks to give form to the ineffable, opening a space for curiosity and discussion that may enrich our relationship to ourselves, others, and the world.
