Jan Vorisek (CH, 1987)
Residency period: January-March 2026
Working between Zurich and Berlin, Swiss artist Jan Vorisek develops a practice that spans institutional exhibitions, artist-run spaces, and galleries, extending into his activities as a DJ and organizer of club and experimental music events. His projects explore collective resonance and question the dynamics of subcultures, often taking the form of site-specific interventions, large-scale installations, and experimental assemblages of sculpture, video, text, found objects, and sound.
Represented by Arcadia Missa in London, he has received the Prix Mobiliar and the Manor Art Prize, and in 2024 was listed among Switzerland’s top artists by BILANZ. His work includes major institutional solo exhibitions and large-scale public projects, such as the 18-metre sculpture Freiläufer inaugurated in Zurich in 2025.
During his residency, Jan Vorisek will extend his Dweller series, turning discarded Styrofoam packaging into sculptural works that probe the threshold between waste and permanence. In the wood workshop at La Becque, he will rework these forms into objects that treat the debris of global consumer circulation as raw material. In parallel, he will develop a sonic counterpart in the sound studio, layering field recordings from Lake Geneva to capture the lake’s dual nature – at once a surface and a veil. Taking Smoke on the Water as a conceptual starting point, the compositions will trace shifting realities, where sound lingers and warps, fusing sculpture and sound to explore the lake as a figure of simulated purity concealing deeper contradictions.
